Making of a Seamless Food Delivery App for Cayman Islands

Client Overview

EAT IT IN is a food delivery application developed with an aim to cater to the food and dining needs of people in the Cayman Islands. The Cayman Islands comprising three islands is an autonomous British Overseas Territory in the western Caribbean Sea. Owing to the presence of scenic beaches Cayman Islands has gained great popularity among tourists. Users can browse local restaurants and order varied types of cuisines by choosing their specific location through the app. The estimated delivery time and charges will be displayed while placing the order. The people behind this venture, Nathan and Jamal are working in the finance industry in Cayman Island.

Webdura’s Association

Nathan and Jamal approached Webdura through Upwork with a proposal to build a food delivery application based in the Cayman Islands. EAT IT IN was at an early stage when we started to talk about. The client wanted us to develop a Progressive Web App that works seamlessly in all devices such as mobile, tablet, laptop and desktop. Therefore, the aim was to create a good performing and good-looking app which also works in the browser with offline features. Webdura team started off by researching more about the food delivery sector and competitors.

The Approach We Took

After various rounds of discussions with the client, our team was ready for the challenge. Our highly skilled team of developers are well-versed in advanced and emerging technologies required for app development. We started with system analysis and then moved on to draw the wireframe for each page. We conducted a thorough study of different food delivery apps and came up with a system analysis document with all relevant aspects. We divided it into the following four modules: User, Restaurant (Manager, Kitchen), Delivery, Admin. Based on the system analysis document, we built a wireframe in moqup.com. Subsequently, our team moved on to the design phase. Payment integration was challenging because the major payment provider was not serving the Cayman Islands. So we had to rely on a local service provider to do their payment support.

Tools and Technology used

Methods and Approaches used

We used Agile methodology and conducted a two weeks sprint. Agile is a very useful methodology which works by breaking a project down into small portions of user functionality. Depending on the priority of each task these are completed and then continuously delivered in 2-4 week cycles called iterations or sprints. In this method, client/stakeholder involvement is encouraged at every stage ensuring maximum transparency and visibility.

The Result We Achieved

Once we got confirmation from the client, EAT IT IN was launched on the web platform. Our team was instrumental in developing a highly efficient and smart application that runs perfectly on all devices. We are thrilled to say that we completed the planning, strategy, designing and developing of this project within a period of four months. Consequently, EAT IT IN started acquiring many service providers into the application.
